Have you ever had a teary emotional release during savasana? Just me? 😅

A couple of years ago at the end of a vinyasa yoga class, the teacher said a simple phrase that I’ve kept in my practice forever.

>> “ Breathe in, LET. Breathe out, GO “
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
SURRENDER or trust had been my main struggle ever since I could remember. Hearing “Let go” after trying too hard in class, made me realize I was also trying too hard in life.

As a toddler, I’d smooth out all the corners of my blanket, place every toy back in its proper spot and cry when my sandwiches weren’t cut a certain way. But I love that little girl. I see her. I understand her perfectionism / need for control.

Throughout my school years I saw the recurrent theme of betrayal come up. I was constantly feeling betrayed by my parents, siblings, friends, peers, boyfriends.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This was due to holding so tightly onto outcomes… controlling. Any deviation from “my way” left me feeling anxious and fearful. I was resistant to change that I hadn’t mentally prepared for. Which was basically everything in life – so I didn’t take risks! I played it safe, small, and I avoided speaking up.

Fast forward to the present. The huge difference is I now have the awareness and training to feel these emotions, allow them to pass, and strengthen my preferred subconscious beliefs. Sometimes it takes minutes, hours, maybe even days to integrate. Luckily I have a wonderful support team helping me hold a mirror up to myself.

>> It’s true that we cannot see ourselves as clearly as we see others.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We cannot always see the things that are holding us back. We are often our own blind spot. This is why it’s so beneficial to have an accountability partner, a coach, or mentor to guide you. No matter how experienced you are, we all need support to make it to that next level. We need encouragement to embrace change. To release what is no longer serving us and fully step into our potential. 💫
